Family Day at Rock & Rumble

There’s nothing better than taking the family out to a good ole fashion American event. My sons and I spent the day at the Colorado Hot Rod Rock & Rumble—one of the finest displays of hot rods, classics, and street rods you’ll find anywhere in the nation, with fun events, vendors, good food, and more. A yearly event all hot rod enthusiasts should attend.

J.C. Owens:

Hey folks, J.C. here. And we just got back from the hot rod rock and rumble in fountain, Colorado at Pike's peak international Raceway. And what a cool event. If you like rockabilly music, some of the most beautiful, hot rods and classic cars that you've ever seen gathered in one group drag strip races. Burnout contest cars with flame throwers, pretty much anything. Eye candy for those enthusiasts that just love the classic cars. I'm a huge classic car fan. I love the seventies cars. I love some of the sixties cars, rat rods, cool custom pickup trucks, and a lot of the older stuff. If you go back into the twenties, thirties, forties, and fifties. They just have something for everybody to see. And I believe stuff like that takes you back to when you were a kid and you start looking back at some of the cars you owned, maybe your parents owned or friends owned. And I think it's just a great way to go back in time and relive some of the good old days. Seeing the old 69 70 Camaros, the sheels, the Pontiac GTOs, one of my favorite road runner Plymouth. Barracudas, it's amazing to see 'em running down the track like you would've seen back in the seventies, really cool stuff. Those that are familiar with it. It's an amazing display of some of the most beautiful classic. Cars and hot rods that I think you're gonna see, but it's a lot of fun. Also. It's a chance for a lot of, enthusiast that own those type of cars to show their stuff, earn bragging rights, check their car out a quarter mile for time and get to actually go out on a NASCAR racetrack and open 'em up and just have a blast. A lot of food vendors. A lot of different types of vendors, selling all types of stuff related to hot rods. And I think these type of events are just fabulous and they're great family events where you can take the whole family and there's something for everybody and let's face it. Even the little kids just love the classic cars and just sport. Anything that you can imagine sport. Now, an event like this, I'm a huge enthusiast. I like 70, Chael's one of my favorite. And though I've owned my share of them. I never get enough of the road runners. The barracudas. Challengers chargers, speaking of the challengers and chargers Dodge, just announced that they're discontinue in that line and that they're gonna go in the direction of electric vehicles, which I'm not sure what the heck they're thinking there. Those are just some amazing vehicles that people love. Dodge decide, to go in the Wilm direction. I don't know what's going on with that kind of thinking, but I just love the old Dodges and anything Mopar. For those of you that understand what that means. I also love some of the classic general motors brands, Pontiac GTOs, probably one of the most beautiful cars ever made. And you'll always have the old classics. Many are into Camaros and Firebirds. And then you have the old coops and the antiques the pickup trucks, they have burnout contest. The burnout contests are really cool. I love to see cars drifting and spinning those tires, making lots of. A lot of good family fun. You see a lot of families out there enjoying themselves, doing something very. And it's nice to see. I think we need more of that stuff. I happen to live in an area of Colorado. There's very well known for this type of events. Car shows, bikers shows, races, rodeos. Even our chili festival is a nice event. I happen to love family events, where families can get together and go have a good time without seeing violence and people fighting and just good stuff. And I believe we need more. We happen to have an old drive-in in our area. That's very affordable shows, first run movies. And I love going to the drive-in that takes me back to the seventies when I was a. I feel bad for folks that live in the city and do not get to experience this type of thing. Although in some cities have some really good events, but I find more in rural areas. You get some really good stuff. P P I R was a NASCAR facility. They build it to host NASCAR races here in Colorado. They put it on the circuit. I'm not sure why it didn't have a good start or go. I think it was a lot of folks didn't wanna fly in and drive the distance to get to the racetrack for the NASCAR races. It is really in the middle of nowhere, but it's a nice facility. One you wouldn't expect in the middle of nowhere. And it's only about 25 minutes drive for my home. So we're really glad they built. Just really great place to have events. We've attended a biker Fest up there one year. I don't know why they didn't bring that one back because it was such a good event happens to be that a hot rod rock and rumble has been going on for a couple years. It's very successful. A lot of people come to it. Many will travel across the nation to come here. It's a little hot out there today, but I guess that adds to the ambiance of the day. They'll have all kinds of stuff going throughout the evening. I know we're going to go back cuz they have a jet powered car that is going to be making us way around the track about nine o'clock after dark. And that car actually shoots flames out the back and that's gonna be pretty cool to see, but it is really neat if you've never seen a 69 Camaro or a 69 Chael or an Al Camino just literally lighted up in a quarter mile to see how fast they can go. It's just an amazing thing to see actually that type of just incredible power. So we had a good time, my son and I actually rode our Harley up there. He rides in the. And we met my other son up there who had ridden his Harley up with a friend. So that was neat. Get to walk around as a family. There's a lot of motorcycles that ride up there, but just a candy store of old classic cars and just some really cool stuff to see. Naturally we always get t-shirts and You can't beat fair food and it's pretty affordable up there actually. They don't overprice it. And so overall, just a great time for those of you that love classic cars and old hot rods. I highly recommend the hot rod rock and rumble. I truly do. I think that it's an event worth coming to, they actually have camping available there. A lot of folks will bring their motor homes there. And even if you had to stay just local and explore a little bit of Colorado and attend it as a weekend event, it's well worth your time and it'll take you back. It'll take you back. It takes me back when I was a kid. I looked around and that was the cars of the day. And I owned many of those cars back then you'd buy 'em for, 1500, 2000. If you paid 2,500, you paid too much, but we all had old classic hot rods, but they weren't old classic hot rods back then. That was just the cars that they were putting out the SS series for Chevrolet, a lot of good Fords and Pontiacs and Buicks. And Plymouths just some neat stuff that many of us now consider classic. I don't know, I guess that makes us classics too. So folks, I highly recommend hot rod rock and rumble and any summer winter event that you can attend as a family. It's time we get off our deaths and we start spending family time together. Like we used to in the old days, there's so much truth to families that play together, stay together. We simply just need more family time. I think that's one of the biggest problems. American is suffering. Maybe for those that love cars, like I said, put it on your calendar and attend that event. I think you have a good time and it's a great weekend. It starts it's a Friday, Saturday, Sunday towards the end of August. So great time. Hot rod rock and rumble. That's all I have to say. This was just a quick podcast. This is J.C. Owens and I am outta here.
